Thomas Frank claims Man Utd were ‘unbelievably lucky’ in Brentford win

Thomas Frank has blasted Manchester United as “unbelievably lucky” in their 3-1 win at Brentford on Wednesday night.

Second-half goals from Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford saw United race into a three-goal lead after half-time, with Ivan Toney grabbing a late consolation for the hosts.

But United were very poor in the first half and were fortunate to head into the break on level terms, with David de Gea producing a series of fine saves to deny the Bees.

And Brentford boss Frank was, well, very frank in his assessment of the Red Devils’ first-half showing.

“They are unbelievably lucky,” he said. “I know all the crap about taking chances. They changed the system against little Brentford.

“We are the smallest club in the Premier League, the biggest, we destroyed them in the first half, they didn’t have a sniff.

“The way we smashed them in the first half was fantastic, I’m so proud of my team.”

United condemned Brentford to their third successive Premier League defeat and have closed the gap on fourth-place West Ham to just two points.

While Ralf Rangnick’s side have a game in hand over the Hammers, Spurs and Arsenal – who sit above United in the table – have both played fewer than the Red Devils thus far.
