Ex Hearts Of Oak skipper Thomas Abbey has finally apologized over comments made about the club concerning their defeat to sworn rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2017 during the FA Cup final in Tamale.

Revealing what caused that defeat, Abbey in a recent interview said:

“I can say that before the match, everything favored Hearts. We were supposed to win but there were very serious problems in the team. We had not been paid for three months and winning bonuses from seven matches were also not paid.

“I can tell you that, before the final, we were not even training. We were protesting so we will go to the training grounds and only jog for twenty minutes and go back home.”

“Most of the players had their contracts expired so we knew the match was the last opportunity to demand our pay. Not surprising that we lost in the first half. I can say it was what led to the defeat.”

The midfielder after the revelation has come under attack from former teammates including Leonard Tawiah and Winful Cobbinah labeling Abbey as a “Lair” citing there were no friction or whatsoever at camp then.

Apologizing to the Oak family, Abbey said:

“I am sorry for my comments, they should find a place in their hearts and forgive me”-Abbey told Fox fm

“It is never true we played badly because of unpaid salaries and bonuses.

My comments was not to cause harm to anybody, for the sake of humanity they should forgive me.”
