Ex Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingson has stated he was left hurt after brother Laryea Kingston was dropped from Ghana’s World Cup squads in South Africa 2010.
Laryea first missed Ghana’s first World Cup appearance in Germany 2006 due to suspension after emerging as one of the country’s best players during the qualifies.
Laryea Kingston was one Ghana’s brightest players during the qualifying campaign to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
He subsequently played a vital role in the build up to Ghana’s second world cup in South Africa but failed to make the final squad for the tournament.
“Laryea Kingston is doing well. He recently won a trophy with his academy and that is fantastic. I will encourage him to do more. The sky is the limit for him. When he was dropped in the 2006 tournament, it was a 50-50 decision. Personally, I was not hurt like the 2010. I felt he should have been there,” he told Joy Sports.
“I felt so bad that I conceded three or four goals against Holland. I went off because he deserved to be there. He played the qualifiers and he was fit and in form. I even went to that coach on midnight and asked him why he didn’t pick Laryea Kingston because he deserved to be there. I thought he would be called to compensate for the 2006 disappointment.”
Laryea made 41 appearances for Ghana, scoring 6 goals.
