Okoye, Iwobi get death threats over Super Eagles eviction

Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and midfielder Alex Iwobi have come under attack following Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the Round of 16 games at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON)

The Carthage Eagles defeated the super eagles of Nigeria by 1:0 in Garoua on Sunday to advance to the quarter-finals of the African cup of Nations.

Iwobi, a second-half substitute, who conceded a free-kick and got sent off, also received threats.

Most Nigeria fans have taken on social media to blame goalkeeper Maduka for conceding the only goal that eliminated the super eagles from the African cup of Nations tournament.

The super Eagles were the favorite to clinch the Afcon title once again after their impressive performance in the group stage getting nine-point but was knockout by a team qualified with just three points in the group stage.

Reacting, many Nigerians after the game took to social media to express their dissatisfaction over Super Eagles.

But some, including Rangers star Leon Balogun, pleaded for more support for the Super Eagles and not subject them to cyberbullying.
