Morroco Upstage the Black Stars – Match Report

With an additional one minute to the first 45 from the stade Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde, the Black Stars of Ghana settled for a goaless stalemate with Morroco given the first stages of the encounter.

The Ghanaian team started very well on a higher note until the Morrocan’s took over from the 25′ minutes where they were seen miss a couple of chances as there was little for the Stars interms of chance created except for a Thomas Partey’s free kick on the 32′ minute which went off target.

Ending proceedings for the first 45′ minute, it was the Morrocan’s who enjoyed most of the possessions as they accrued 61 percent ball possession as to that of 31 for the Black Stars.

Tactical changes from both coach Vahid Halilhodzic and Milovan Rajevac led to an increase in pace of the game perhaps leading the Morrocan’s to have narrowly miss post by inch five minutes into the second half. Eventually, goalkeeper Yasin Bonu in post for Morroco was called in action denying defender Joseph Paintsil’s beautiful strike perhaps on the 75′ hour mark.

Little over the 80th minutes, the Morrocan’s found their hour of grace when Sofiane Bufarr strike went pass Jojo Wallocot making it 1-0 for Morroco.

Double substitution for Ghana on the 86′ minute saw Joseph Paintsil make way for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku whiles Jordan Ayew, Kamaldeen Sulemana both were given to Daniel Kofi Kyere and Emmanuel Tetteh respectively as Richmond Boakye Yiadom also came for Thomas Partey but at the end, did not yeild to fruition.

Morroco nearly added the second goal during the dieing embers but Jojo Wallocot stood firm with a fantastic save to deny what would have been a disaster for Ghana. Apparently leading to the end of refree’s whistle that Morroco pip the Black Stars.
