Let’s develop capacity of local coaches- Frimpong Manso

Ghanaian football icon, Frimpong Manso wants the powers that be in Ghana Football to prioritize developing the capacity of local coaches.

Manso, who belongs to a select few of personalities to have made a name for Ghana as a player and a Coach believes developing local trainers to international standards will only inure to the benefit of the state eventually.

The Ex-Asante Kotoko player made this known during an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Silver 98.3 FM.

His comments come in the wake of a revived age-long debate about who best fits to handle the Ghana senior national football team, the Black Stars.

This follows the dismissal of Milovan Rajevac who supervised a disappointing campaign for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon this year.

According to him, the conversation should not be limited to who becomes the head coach but rather Ghana developing coaches to occupy the various roles in a technical team setup.

“We have homegrown coaching talents that we ned to make use of. We have Video Analysts and we must use their services instead of going out to contract foreigners. Let’s develop the capacity of our locals.

“Its an avenue to train, develop and expose plenty local coaches. So its not really about the main coaching role.

“Scouting for instance is a specialised area, so lets break them up and dvelop the capacity of the coaches here.

“Most of these courses are very expensive, and not everyone can afford. So in this case, the Ministry of Sports or whoever can support financially. We can even bring an expert to train our local coaches in such specialised fields,” he concluded.
