Fernando Santos steps down from Portugal Coaching job

Fernando Santos has resigned following Portugal’s elimination from the Fifa World Cup this year to the Atlas Lions of Morocco.

Fernando Santos landed the Portugal Coaching job in 2014 and has led The Navigators to the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 UEFA Nations League titles respectively.

Despite having two years remaining on his contract, the 68 year old has left his position as Head Coach after a disappointing and unexpected exit at the Mondial.

For most Portuguese fans, the decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo from the Starting Lineup in the quarter final against Morocco remains a let down for the Portuguese Skipper and for Portuguese football.

There is still no direct replacement lined up to replace Fernando Santos at Portugal and doubts remain amongst the fans as to when the 1966 top four finishers at the world cup will finally attain glory.
