In a momentous celebration of football excellence, the Shama District Football Association is gearing up to present a prestigious award to one of its own, Emmanuel Ankobea. The much-anticipated event is scheduled for August 5, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at the Riverside Conference Hall in Shama, the district’s capital.
Emmanuel Ankobea, a former player hailing from the district, has left an indelible mark on the world of football. He currently serves as part of the coaching staff for Skyy FC, one of the most prominent Division One teams in both the country and the region.
Ankobea’s journey to success began from the early days of his youth, displaying raw talent during inter-school football competitions at St. Johns’ Boys School. His prowess on the field did not go unnoticed, and in 2003, he was scouted and selected by the prestigious Sekondi Hasaacas’ junior team, MALAVANS.
Graduating to the senior side of Sekondi Hasaacas, also known as HASMAL, Ankobea continued to shine, earning immense respect and love from the fans during his decade-long service to the club (2006-2016).
In 2016, destiny led him to Medeama Sporting Club in Tarkwa, but unfortunate injuries hindered him from showcasing his talents to the fullest, resulting in a single season with the club.
However, Ankobea’s journey took another exciting turn as he joined Skyy FC in 2017. With the motto “The Pride of Wassa East,” he proved to be a phenomenal asset to the team until his retirement in 2020, where injuries led him to hang up his boots.
Despite retiring from active play, Ankobea’s passion for the sport continues to thrive as he imparts his knowledge and expertise to upcoming players as a coach.
An exemplary figure in the region, Ankobea’s impact extends beyond the football pitch, earning admiration and respect from both footballers and non-footballers alike. Such commendable contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he is set to be honored with a Citation Award at the forthcoming Shama District Football Association Annual Awards.
The organizers of the event commend his dedication and outstanding qualities, recognizing him as a true champion in every sense of the word. As the ceremony approaches, the district eagerly anticipates celebrating the achievements of this remarkable sports figure.
