Asante Kotoko SC Reappoints Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as Head Coach for the Upcoming Season

Asante Kotoko SC has taken a decisive step towards the upcoming season by re-hiring their former coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, to lead the team once again, according to reliable sources at soccanews.com.

The announcement was reportedly made by the Manhyia Palace, amid high anticipation from the fans. Dr. Ogum’s return comes after he left the club at the end of the 2021-22 season, despite securing a significant victory for the team by guiding them to a Ghana Premier League title after an eight-year drought.

Following his departure, the club appointed Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo as the new coach. Despite leading the team in major competitions such as the CAF Champions League and the MTN FA Cup, Zerbo’s tenure was cut short after a loss to Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, resulting in his dismissal midway through last season.

As an interim solution, Abdul Gazale, an assistant coach with experience in managing the youth side of the club, took charge until the end of the season. Under Gazale’s guidance, Asante Kotoko SC achieved a commendable fourth-place finish with 52 points from 34 matches.

Now, with Dr. Ogum back at the helm, the focus is set on reclaiming the premiership title. He is expected to oversee the club’s recruitment and pre-season training, aiming to build a formidable team for the 2023-24 season.

In addition to the coaching change, the Manhyia Palace is also expected to appoint a new executive board chairman in the coming days. This move is intended to initiate other operational changes before the start of the season in September, as directed by the Ghana Football Association.

Excitement and anticipation surround Asante Kotoko SC as they prepare for the upcoming season under the guidance of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. With the determination to regain their former glory, the team and its fans are eagerly looking forward to what promises to be an action-packed and thrilling football campaign.
