Tottenham’s Bryan Gil joins Valencia on loan

Tottenham winger Bryan Gil has returned to La Liga after just six months in north London, joining Valencia on loan for the remainder of the season.

Spurs shelled out a hefty £20m fee and included fan favourite Erik Lamela in a player-plus-cash deal to sign Gil from Sevilla in the summer, but he is already on his way back to his home country.

The 20-year-old had been a bit-part player under both Nuno Espirito Santo and his replacement Antonio Conte in the first half of the season, failing to score and providing just one assist which came in Europa Conference League qualifying back in August.

Although Gil has featured regularly in the cup competitions and impressed in flashes, the Spain international was yet to start a Premier League game in just nine appearances.

With Tottenham now only fighting for silverware on one front in the FA Cup, the wide man’s opportunities were only likely to become more limited and he has been allowed to leave.

Gil underwent his Valencia medical on Monday and the deal has now been confirmed ahead of the deadline.

Reports in Spain claim Los Che will not pay a loan fee, and there is an option for an additional season at the Mestalla should all parties wish to continue with the arrangement.

Spurs’ mini squad overhaul should be completed on deadline day. Tanguy Ndombele has rejoined Lyon on loan, Giovani Lo Celso could sign for Villarreal and Dele Alli is heading to Everton, while Tottenham have secured the signings of Juventus pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.
