Tottenham Hotspurs to feature in next edition of President’s Cup- GHALCA

Chairman for the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Kudjoe Fiano has disclosed that discussions are underway to stage a match between English side Tottenham and a Ghanaian club in the next edition of the  President’s Cup.

The former Ashantigold SC Chief Executive Officer indicated the game will come off before the tenure of Ghana’s  president Nana Akufo-Addo expires in 2024.

Nana Akufo-Addo is a staunch supporter of the English Premier League side and GHALCA is planning to honor him with that game in Ghana.

The President Cup play honor of the sitting Ghanaian president every year will come off on March 4, 2022, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“There are plans to honor the president with the clubs he supports locally and internationally in the next edition of the President cup”, he told Precise FM

“We have involved clubs outside Ghana in the past and per what we are looking at, the president’s tenure expires in 2024 and we are aware he supports Tottenham Hotspurs so after this year we are looking at engaging authorities in bringing Tottenham Hotspurs to Ghana to play against the club the president supports in Ghana.”

He added: “This is the plan we have for the president cup but we are involving Kotoko and Hearts this year because that plan has not been concluded.

Kotoko was champion the last time both sides met in the President’s Cup in 2019.

Kotoko has won the trophy on six occasions, two more than Hearts of Oak.
