Senegal clashes with Morocco for TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations Final

The stage is set for the final of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations 2023 in Algeria. Senegal takes on Morocco at Nelson Mandela Stadium on Friday. The two teams have been amongst the most consistent top performers in the competition and the final will kick-off at 22h00 local time (21h00 GMT).

So far, the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations Algeria 2023 has been a memorable one attracting top scouts from leading African and European clubs. With the 90 minutes match being the main event, a beautiful pre-event music and entertainment performance is being prepared featuring some top artists in Algeria. The artists include the musical group Freeklane, and the Algerian legend Cheb Bilal.

Senegal, The Lion Cubs of Teranga enroute to the final dominated Group A, by defeating Congo (1-0), Algeria (3-0) and Somalia (3-0). They knocked-out South Africa in the quarterfinals before facing Burkina Faso in the semi-finals, edging them out in a penalty shootout.

Morocco also getting to the Final finished top of their group ahead of Nigeria who they beat 1-0, South Africa (2-0) and Zambia (2-1). In the quarterfinals, they eliminated host country Algeria, Mali in the semis and here they are in the final.

Meanwhile, Senegal, Morocco, Mali and Burkina Faso will be representing africa at the world stage at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be the 19th edition of the biennial international men’s youth football tournament contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It will be held from 10 November to 2 December 2023.

This edition marks the return of the tournament after a 4-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing FIFA to cancel the 2021 edition. Brazil are the defending champions, having won their 4th title in 2019.
