Real Madrid book place in Spanish Super Cup Final

Real Madrid have progressed to the finals of the Spanish Super Cup after beating Valencia 4-3 on Penalties.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the game from the Penalty spot after 38 minutes yet Valencia forward Samuel Lino restored parity for Gattuso’s men in the second half.

Both sides had several opportunities to find the winner in regulation time yet failed to do so as both Madrid shot stopper Thibaut Courtois and Valencia Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvii were at the absolute peak of their powers.

In the 111th minute of extra time, former Barcelona youngster Ilaix Moriba found Francisco Perez with a great ball yet Courtois was there to make yet another brilliant save to keep Los Blancos in the game.

The game went on to Penalties with Madrid looking as favorites to make the final of this year’s Spanish Super Cup.

Comet missed Valencia’s second spot kick after Cavani, Benzema and Modric all found the back of the net with the score 2-1 in favor of the champions.

Moriba made it 2-2 with Valencia’s third spot kick before Toni Kroos made it 3-2 in favor of Madrid.

Hugo Guillarmon leveled for Gattuso’s men at 3-3 after their fourth spot kick with Marco Asensio heading towards Madrid’s fourth as well.

Valencia skipper Jose Gaya missed their fifth spot kick after Marco Asensio scored Real’s fourth consecutive spot kick.

Thibaut Courtois’s two penalty saves booked a place in the final for the current holders as they look to take on the winner of the Betis vs Barcelona clash.
