Preview: Chelsea vs Borussia Dortmund (Champions League)

The English side will be facing their most important game of the season when they host Borussia Dortmund at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The hosts are going into the match after defeating Leeds United last Saturday (1-0), but Graham Potter’s men have been fragile over the last weeks, as before their last Premier League game they recorded a six-winningless game streak.

Chelsea are currently sitting 10th in the league standings with 34 points, nine points away from the European spots, and 29 points behind leaders Arsenal.

The two-time Champions League winners have four clean sheets from their last six contests at Stamford Bridge.

The German team is in a much better situation than their opponents, sitting second in the Bundesliga table with 49 points, tied to leaders Bayern Munich and five points ahead of third-placed FC Union Berlin.

Edin Terzic’s men have won all of their 10 competitive games across all competitions since the end of the World Cup, so they will fancy their chances of progressing to the quarterfinals with a good result in England.

However, BVB will need to break the curse of playing in London, as they have lost their last five European games in the English capital, but the last time they won both legs of a Champions League knockout tie, back in 1996-97, they won the trophy.

Chelsea vs Borussia Dortmund: prediction

Chelsea will hope to live a magical night in Europe in front of their fans, but they will need to be considerably better than what they have been in their recent games. They have experience in this kind of game, but they will be facing a Dortmund who look unstoppable right now and have been way more solid throughout the season, led by young star Jude Bellingham.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
