President Akufo-Addo Backs Black Stars Despite Recent Struggles

President Akufo-Addo backs Black stars

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his unwavering faith in the senior national football team, the Black Stars, during his state of the nation address on February 27, 2024.

“I have no doubt that the Black Stars will rise up and make us proud again,” President Nana Akufo-Addo declared, acknowledging the team’s recent struggles.

The President’s statement comes after a string of disappointing performances by the Black Stars. They were eliminated in the group stages of the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, and also failed to progress past the group stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

These results have understandably frustrated fans and raised concerns about the team’s direction.

Despite these setbacks, President Akufo-Addo urged the team and the nation to remain optimistic. The Black Stars will have the opportunity to begin their road to redemption in June when they face Mali and the Central African Republic in crucial qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
