Poor Pitches In Ghana Affected Kwesi Appiah – Grant

Former Head Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Avram Grant who handed Kwesi Appiah his debut national team call up in 2015 has opined that the young attacker was hugely affected by the poor nature of pitches in Ghana.

Black Stars Striker, Kwesi Appiah was destined for greatness following his heroic performance at the 2015 Cup of Nations.

Kwesi Appiah formed a solid partnership with Asamoah Gyan and Jordan Ayew at the tournament which was his debut appearance at that stage.

Grant in an interview with Francis Hema of 433ghana.com revealed that Premier League Clubs showed interest in the then young striker but his injury which he had due to the poor nature of pitches in Ghana affected him.

“He was really brilliant, we took him from one of the lowest divisions in England and he played fantastic, he got injured along the line.

“I always talk about the quality of pitches in Ghana which I think is one of the biggest problems. It’s no doubt that if they improve pitches in Ghana, you will see the country top of the world regularly because the quality is there.

“We trained on a very bad pitch and he got injured for more than a year and he had another bad injury which is sad because this a guy that had lot of potential.

“After the 2015 AFCON, a lot of Premier League clubs were interested in him but he was unlucky because of a bad injury which didn’t allow him play for a year and half” Grant said in the interview.
