Nurnberg interested in signing Ghanaian defender Michael Akoto

German club FC Nürnberg have shown interest in signing Ghanaian defender Michael Akoto.

According to a report by German news outlet Bild, Nurnberg sports director Dieter Hecking is personally taking a look at the Dynamo Dresden right back.

Michael Akoto is still contracted to the German Bundesliga II side until June 2023.

The 24-year-old has made 24 appearances for Dynamo Dresden in the ongoing campaign.

In the medium term, the club is looking for a replacement for captain Enrico Valentini (33), whose contract at Valznerweiher ends in just under a year and a half

Despite being a centre-back, Akoto can operate at right-back or left-back. His versatility in defence is seen as the reason for Nuremberg’s huge interest.

The 24-year-old holds German citizenship despite being born in Accra.

He has been playing in Germany since 2014 when he joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden U17. He went on to feature for their U19 team and then first team before joining Mainz.
