Milovan Rajevac congratulates Comoros for a deserved victory over the Black Stars

Head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac has congratulated the Comoros national team for defeating his side in the last group stage game of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Following a defeat in the opening game at the hands of Morocco and a draw with Gabon, the Black Stars of Ghana needed to defeat Comoros on Tuesday evening in order to advance to the next stage of the competition.

But that did not happen as Comoros pulled a surprise 3-2 victory over the 4 times champions in Garoua.

Comoros who had lost their first two games to Gabon and Morocco started the game on the front foot and secured an early goal in the first four minutes to unsettle the Black Stars.

The situation became even more complicated as skipper Andre Ayew was shown a straight red card after a follow through tackle on the Comoros goalkeeper.

The Black Stars then conceded a second goal before rallying back to level the score at 2-2.

It was not to be their night, however, as Comoros netted a winner late in the game to hand Ghana their first AFCON elimination since 2006.

Speaking after the game, head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac indicated that despite his side showing a great attitude for a come back, Comoros deserved the victory.

“We didn’t start the match well as expected, he said.

“It didn’t go well from the beginning (because) we conceded an early goal and the red card completely changed the course of the match.

“We tried to come back and at one point it was a 2-2 result, we wanted to come back completely and win but eventually (it didn’t happen).

“My boys did everything, they were fighting so much but I have to congratulate the Comoros team because they deserve this victory today.”

The Black Stars, by virtue of the defeat, finished last in Group C, with Morocco and Gabon advancing to the next round and Comoros finishing in third place.
