Match Report: Accra Lions beat Dreams FC in a five goal thriller

A brace from Dominic Amponsah helped Accra Lions secure a hard fought win against Dreams FC on Monday evening.

Accra Lions kept their hopes of clinching the top-flight league title alive following a 3-2 home win over Dreams FC in the match-week 21 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The opening minutes of the fixture looked balanced with Accra Lions causing havoc which eventually earned them the opener before the half-hour mark.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side took the lead via a penalty kick awarded to them on the 18th minute after a shot from Dominic Amponsah was blocked by Eric Danso Boateng’s hand.

In-form teen sensation Salifu Abass Samari stepped up and brilliantly struck the ball firmly into the back of the net to hand Accra Lions the opener.

Dreams FC uped their performance after conceding before the half-hour mark with Ishmael Dede and Sylvester Simba tormenting the backline of Lions in the remaining minutes of the first half.

Goalkeeper Andrews Owusu made crucial saves on the 29th and 32nd minute to deny Michelle Sarpong and Ishmael Dede from grabbing the equalizer.

Dreams FC’s impressive performance in the last twenty-five minutes of the game paid off with the leveller through Ernest Danso Boateng on the stroke of halftime.
Danso Boateng’s header from a free-kick from Ebenezer Adade ended the first half of the game in a one-all draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In the second half, Accra Lions coaches James Francis and Ibrahim Tanko switched up their tactics to dominate majority of the game possession which aided them to register two goals.

Newly-signed attacker Dominic Amponsah restored the lead for Lions with an audacious free-kick on the 60th minute of the game.

Dreams FC looked unperturbed after conceding the second goal from a 25-yard free-kick as they kept to pounce on the host with impressive display.

Dreams FC made it 2-2 on the 73rd minute through a sensational free-kick from Ebenezer Adade, who slotted the ball into the top corner of Owusu’s post.

Two minutes later, Amponsah sealed his day with a brace after notching up the match-winner to secure all the needed points for Accra Lions.
