Madagascar Soar to Top of Group I in World Cup Qualifiers With Victory Over Comoros

Madagascar claimed the top spot in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following a convincing 2-0 victory over Comoros on Friday.  This thrilling encounter saw Madagascar dominate much of the match, but Comoros threatened a late fightback.

Rayan Raveloson proved to be the hero for Madagascar, netting a brace. He opened the scoring in the opening minutes, setting the tone for a strong performance. Raveloson doubled Madagascar’s lead in the 66th minute, putting the game out of reach for Comoros.

Despite a consolation goal by El Fardou Ben in the 94th minute, Comoros were unable to mount a comeback. The victory propels Madagascar to the top of the group with six points. Comoros and Ghana, who also have six points, sit just behind in a tightly contested group. Mali and Central African Republic follow with four points each, while Chad remains at the bottom of the table without a point.

This result throws Group I wide open, with several teams still in contention for qualification. Madagascar will now look to solidify their lead when they face Mali in their next World Cup qualifier on June 10.
