Lyon in talks with Tottenham over Giovani Lo Celso loan deal

Lyon are in talks with Tottenham over a loan deal for Giovani Lo Celso, with reports in France suggesting that terms have already been agreed.

90min has learned that Spurs are keen to offload Lo Celso before the January transfer window closes, with Antonio Conte also prepared to authorise the departures of Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele as part of his mass squad rebuild.

As revealed by L’Equipe, Lyon have identified Lo Celso as their preferred replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is set to move to Newcastle United in the coming days, and contact has been made with Spurs.

The two sides are said to have agreed a loan deal which would see Lyon pay 50% of Lo Celso’s wages and would not include an option to buy. However, the Argentine is yet to decide whether or not it’s the right move for him and is considering his options.

Sevilla have previously been linked with Lo Celso, while Villarreal have also reached out to Spurs to discuss a potential deal.

The two sides hope to convince Lo Celso to return to La Liga, where he excelled with Real Betis in 2018/19. The 25-year-old racked up 16 goals and six assists that season, earning himself a £55m move to Spurs that summer.

As far as incomings go, Spurs have been frustrated in their pursuits of Adama Traore and Luis Diaz, who are joining Barcelona and Liverpool respectively, but talks are now on with Juventus over a loan deal for forward Dejan Kulusevski.

Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is also on Spurs’ radar but Juve are reluctant to allow the Uruguay midfielder to leave without finding a suitable replacement, which is looking increasingly unlikely this month.
