Kotoko’s Ibrahim Danlad calls for more home-based players in Black Stars

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad believes that home-based or local players should be given more opportunities to play for the Black Stars.

Danlad stated that for each call-up, at least five home-based players should be included, with one starting. He believes that some players have earned the right to be Black Stars regulars.

“Since I joined [Black Stars], I haven’t seen any local player who has made a mess of himself in the senior national team. We (local players) are capable of playing [for Black Stars],” Danlad said on Onua FM’s Dressing Room Show

“People say that we don’t qualify for CHAN [African Nations Championships] but we want to play for Black Stars. When you blend with the foreign-based players, you’ll get it all.

“Left to me, about five local players should be called for Black Stars and one of them get to start in the team. This will give the locals hope of making the squad in the future. It will even help the local league.”

Danlad recently assisted Black Galaxies in reaching the final round of the 2022 CHAN qualifiers, where they will face Nigeria, with the winner securing a place in Algeria.

The 19-year-old, who won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament with Black Satellites in 2021, is vying for a spot in Ghana’s World Cup squad in 2022.
