Jurgen Klopp explains decision to sub Mo Salah in record-breaking Liverpool win

Mohamed Salah was substituted by Jurgen Klopp in the 74th minute as Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Anfield on Thursday, with the Egyptian scoring once again in a record-breaking win

Klopp says Liverpool ‘s busy schedule over the festive period made it “right” to substitute Mohamed Salah off during the Reds’ 3-1 win against Newcastle United.

Salah’s goal in the 25th minute completed a comeback for the hosts after Jonjo Shelvey had given the visitors a shock lead early on.

And that strike from the Egyptian, which made it 2-1, was the 15th successive Premier League match in which he has either scored or assisted in, equalling Jamie Vardy ‘s record.

But Salah was hauled off well before Trent-Alexander-Arnold ‘s late sealer when the game was from from over, with Klopp bringing on Roberto Firmino to see-out the match.

“Today was right to take him off a bit earlier,” the Liverpool boss told BT Sport, explaining his decision which left the 29-year-old visibly frustrated in the 74th minute.

Liverpool has become the first premier league team to record 2000 wins the English premier league.
