Good news for Ghana in FIFA U20 World Cup

The Black Princesses of Ghana have qualified to the FIFA U20 World Cup to be staged in Costa Rica this year after seeing off Ethiopia on a 5-1 aggregate win at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A brace by striker, Abdulai Salamatu ensured that Ghana qualified.

The 18-year old scored in the second minute to give the Princesses the lead. An assist from Cecilia Nyama to Salamatu doubled the lead on the 25th minute for Ben Forkuo’s girls.

The brace by Abdulai Salamatu means she scored four goals out of the total five goals scored by Ghana in the two leg encounters.

Ethiopia scored a consolation goal around the 30th minute but it was not enough for them to sail through.

The 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be the 10th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The tournament will be hosted by Costa Rica, which would have hosted the 2020 edition before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be the second time that Costa Rica host a FIFA tournament after the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Japan are the defending champions, having won their first title in 2018.
