Ghana Football Association Clarifies Black Stars South Africa Camping Decision

Accra, December 27, 2023 – In response to recent criticisms, Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has refuted claims that the GFA is solely responsible for the decision to have the Black Stars camp in South Africa.

Twum clarified that the choice to camp in South Africa was directly suggested by the head coach, Chris Hughton. “I want to state it on record that the decision to camp in South Africa is the sole decision of Coach Chris Hughton,” he emphasized.

Moreover, Twum disclosed that Hughton submitted a proposal to the GFA, which received approval from both the Football Association and the Youth and Sports Ministry. Contrary to speculation, he underscored that the decision did not originate from GFA President Kurt Okraku but was a directive from Coach Chris Hughton.

The Black Stars are scheduled to commence their training camp in South Africa from December 31, 2023, to January 10, 2024. This clarification aims to set the record straight regarding the responsibility for the choice of the training location.
