Ex-Ghana Star Sammy Kuffour ‘not happy’ with Black Stars situation

Former Ghana defender Sammy Kuffour has expressed his concern about the start of the Black Stars at the ongoing #AFCON2021 tournament.

Ghana lost their opening game by the odd goal to Morocco, with Sofiane Boufal netting the game’s only goal.

The win dented Ghana’s spirit and overall confidence heading into the tournament, leading to questions about the capabilities of Coach Milovan Rajevac’s side to end the AFCON trophy drought that has lasted since 1982.

Soeaking from the team’s camp in Cameroon, Sammy Kuffour who is a management committee member of the Black Stars admitted that the mood has been melancholic in camp since the Moroccan game.

“I’m not really happy with the situation. Ghanaians are not happy. And everyone is not happy with the situation,” Sammy Kuffour told FootballMadeinGhana.com in an exclusive interview.

Ghana, lying bottom in Group C will next face Gabon on Friday before wrapping group assignments with a face-off against Comoros next Tuesday.

Kuffour says the players are aware of the current situation and will give more to ameliorate their current predicament.

“We have had so many meetings with the individual (players) and I can say that the desire and the spirit is really changing towards our game against Gabon because we want to stay in the tournament. Nobody wants to go home,” the  Ghanaian football legend indicated.

“And they (players) know it (the current situation). But they’re really focused on everything that goes around. If a player knows the situation he’s in, he gives 120%,” Kuffour concluded.

Ghana currently lie bottom in Group C and will need to inject life into their campaign by ensuring victory against Gabon.
