Enner Valencia with the MOTM Performance to earn Ecuador 2-0 win against Qatar

Ecuador’s Enner Valencia on target as host nation Qatar suffered their first defeat in their first appearance in the world cup at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Ecuador dominated hosts Qatar in the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, winning 2-0 thanks to Enner Valencia’s first-half double.

In the first half, Ecuador threatened to score even more goals after Enner Valencia found the back of the net twice, but in the second half, they seemed content to sit back a little which allowed Qatar the necessary latitude to get themselves back into the contest.

Qatar has become the first nation to lose its opening match at the world cup as a host.
