Details emerge on Albert Amoah’s lucrative move to Al Ahly Benghazi

Kotoko officially confirmed the permanent transfer of Amoah to Al Ahly Benghazi on 25 October 2025.

The announcement came just two hours after Kotoko’s 5-1 defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final‐round.

Reports suggest the transfer fee is about US$200,000.

Contract & Salary Terms

Amoah is purported to have received a signing-on fee of US$200,000.

Monthly salary for his first season is reported at US$20,000, with a potential increase to US$25,000/month in the second season if performance targets are met.

It is a two‐year contract (until 2027).

🏃 Background & Context

Amoah (23 years old) joined Kotoko from Great Olympics ahead of the 2024–25 season.

At Kotoko, he was their top scorer, with reports of 12 league goals in 28 appearances last season.

Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, indicated the deal was rushed in order to meet the Libyan federation’s registration deadline.

Kotoko noted that, given the financial pressures, player sales are now one of their key motivations.

Implications & Notes

For Ameoah: Moving to North Africa (Libya) often offers higher remuneration compared to domestic Ghana leagues—this contract appears to reflect that.

For Kotoko: Securing roughly US$200,000 plus off-loading a key asset helps with financial sustainability in a tough domestic context.

For Al Ahly Benghazi: Acquiring a young, proven goalscorer from Ghana may be part of their strategy to strengthen competitively and regionally.

Risks for Amoah: Changing leagues, adapting to new culture/playing style, expectations tied to remuneration will be high.

For fans: The timing (immediately after a heavy defeat) may raise questions about the club’s strategy and priorities.
