COACH YAW ACHEAMPONG: “I WOULDN’T SAY CHRIS HUGHTON HAS INVITED THE BEST PLAYERS”

Former Black Stars player Coach Yaw Acheampong has shared his thoughts on Chris Hughton’s first Black Stars call up.

Ahead of Ghana’s double-header Afcon 2023 Afcon qualifier against Angola. Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has invited 25 players to oversee the match scheduled 23rd and 27th March 2023. There was no place for experienced players like Mubarak Wakaso and Baba Rahman, Sporting Lisbon’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku also missed out meanwhile Patrick Kpozo of Sherif Tiraspol has been handed his first call up. The likes of Thomas Partey, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Salis Mohammed and Daniel Amartey are all in contention.

There has been lots of discussion in the football space with regards to Chris Hughton’s first call up. Many believe the new boss is on the right path considering there is a return for in form Joseph Painstil and others

Ex-Black Stars player Yaw Acheampong believe Chris Hughton has invited players who can help him achieve results.

“I wouldn’t say he has called the best players. I prefer saying he has invited players he feels can give him results. Coaching is results oriented”

Asked if he is impressed with the 25 man squad the former coach of Elmina Sharks and had this to say.

“If Yaw Acheampong is to invite players to the national team it will be quiet different. Same applies to anyone, at least 3, 4 or 5 players will be different. The most important thing is to support the coach”
