Black Princesses Start African Games With Narrow Win Over Ethiopia

Black Princesses

The Black Princesses of Ghana secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ethiopia in their opening match of the 2023 African Games at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday night.

Comfort Owusu emerged as the hero for the Black Princesses, scoring the game’s only goal in the 59th minute. The win puts Ghana in a strong position at the top of Group A.

Despite Ghana’s dominance, the game took a turn when Abiba Issah received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card and leaving the Black Princesses a player down. However, they persevered and held onto their lead to secure the three points.

In the other Group A encounter, Tanzania and Uganda played out a 1-1 draw. Magret Kunhira opened the scoring for Uganda, but Aisha Juma responded with an equalizer for Tanzania, ensuring both teams shared the points.

Ghana will look to build on their opening win when they face Tanzania in their next match on March 12. Meanwhile, Uganda will square off against Ethiopia on the same day.
