Augustine Boakye Scores as Wolfsberger Settle for Draw Against Altach

Augustine Boakye

Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye found the net for Wolfsberger AC, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory as they drew 1-1 against Altach in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.

The 23 year-old opened the scoring for Wolfsberger in the 9th minute. However, their lead was short-lived as Vesel Demaku equalized for Altach just six minutes later. The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 for the rest of the match, with Boakye being substituted for Florian Rieder in the 85th minute.

Despite his goal and a commendable 7.0 rating from SofaScore, Boakye’s side remains in 8th place on the league table with 30 points after 22 matches. This result means Wolfsberger will miss out on the prestigious championship round contested by the top six teams.

Instead, they will have to set their sights on avoiding relegation in the upcoming relegation round. The team finishing last in this round will be relegated to the 2 Liga.

Augustine Boakye, however, has been a bright spark for Wolfsberger this season. With 6 goals and 9 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions, he will be crucial in their fight to avoid relegation.

Their quest to stay up begins on March 16 when they face WSG Tirol in their opening relegation round match.
