African Games: Nigeria Grab Narrow Win, But Uganda Steals the Show in Group B

Nigeria

Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory over South Sudan in the ongoing 2023 African Games Men’s Football Tournament at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night. Sadiq Isyaka stepped up in the 81st minute, converting a penalty to earn the Super Eagles three crucial points.

However, the spotlight of Group B was stolen by Uganda, who stunned powerhouse Senegal with a 1-0 victory earlier in the day. Allan Oyirwoth found the net from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, propelling Uganda to the top of the group standings with a perfect record of six points.

Both Senegal and Nigeria now sit on three points each, with South Sudan at the bottom without any points. This dramatic upset by Uganda guarantees their qualification for the competition’s semi-finals.

The group stage concludes on March 15, with Uganda facing South Sudan and Senegal taking on Nigeria in their final matches. These fixtures will determine who joins Uganda in the next round.
