AFCON 2023: 17 players in Black Stars camp ahead of Angola game

President Akufo-Addo backs Black stars

Seventeen (17) players have now reported in the Black Stars camp for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Angola on Thursday.

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Joojo Wollacott, who suffered an injury before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, had a session with goalkeepers’ trainer Richard Kingston, while the rest of the group was asked to stretch their muscles and did a bit of kick-about with the ball.

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has also been ruled out due to injury and has quickly been replaced with German-based midfielder Alfred Schindler.

Hughton’s first game in charge will be a back-to-back qualifier against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with Ghana hosting the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 23 and travelling to Luanda for the reverse leg fixture four days later.
