AFCON 2021: Rampant Cameroon thrash hapless Ethiopia

Cameroon eased to the second victory at the ongoing TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations after braces from Vincent Aboubakar and Carl Toko-Ekambi handed the Lions a 4-1 victory over Ethiopia.

The scoreline is a bit flattering as the hosts didn’t find it quite easy as many had predicted earlier before kickoff.

Cameroon fell behind once again just as it occurred on the opening day after four minutes kind courtesy Dawa Hottesa’s strike.

That goal seemed to awaken a sleeping lion as the hosts roared back with high intensity and were level just four minutes later through Lyon forward Toko-Ekambi.

The scoreline remained level at the break as neither side was able to cancel out the other in the first 45 minutes.

The game would however turn on its head after a two-goal blitz from tournament top scorer Vincent Aboubakar.

Aboubakar’s brace put some daylight between the hosts and their opponents and Toko-Ekambi put the result beyond doubt grabbing his second too.

Cameroon have qualified for the knockout stages of the competition whilst Ethiopia may well be on their way back home after losses in the opening two games.
