AFCON 2021: Ghana vs Gabon- Match Preview

Ghana seek redemption against Gabon in their second Group C game the at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match is scheduled for 19:00 kick off at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo (Yaoundé) on Friday.

The Black Stars began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco on Monday.

While Gabon got off to a perfect start as they claimed a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Comoros later that day.

This will be the first encounter between the sides since 2011, when the Black Stars claimed a 2-1 victory, and they will be desperate for a repeat of the same to boost their qualification chances.

With Morocco likely to edge out an inexperienced Comoros side, who are making their debut at the tournament, Friday’s game is a must-win for Ghana who are gunning for their fifth AFCON title.

Ghana have won five of their last nine meetings against the Panthers with three draws and only one ending in defeat.

Team News:

Gabon are still sweating over the fitness of talisman Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who is a major doubt for today’s game after the Arsenal forward missed the opening game against Comoros through COVID-19.

In his absence, Aaron Salem Boupendza will hope to keep his spot in attack after scoring the only goal of the game earlier in the week.

Ghana have been handed a major boost following the return of Andre Ayew to training on Thursday.

The Black Stars skipper is the country’s top scorer in the history of the AFCON with nine goals.

However, Mohammed Kudus remains a doubt for Ghana ahead of their meeting with Gabon.
