AFCON 2021: Buhari sends warning messages to the Super Eagles after their win over Egypt

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the Super Eagles to keep its focus on winning in the ongoing 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), in Cameroon.

The President congratulated  Coach Augustine Eguavoen-led team after their victory over the Egyptians in Garoua, Cameroon, on Tuesday.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President noted that the victory won on Tuesday was an indicator of what to be expected from the tournament.

“President Muhammadu Buhari commends the Super Eagles of Nigeria for an impressive start at the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, defeating a formidable opponent, Egypt 1-0, in their group stage encounter.

“The President urges the Augustine Eguavoen-led team and the coaching staff to keep their eyes on the ball, remain good ambassadors on and off the field, and give loyal fans and all Nigerians more exciting moments to celebrate.

“President Buhari assures the team of his unflinching support as they soar like an eagle to write another chapter in the annals of Nigeria’s rich football history,” the statement reads.

The Super Eagles kick off their African cup of the nation in style after Kelechi Iheanacho’s strike at the 30th minute handed the super Eagles the three maximum points over the Egyptians in their first Afcon game.
