Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo has admitted that the rain played a crucial role in their victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) on Monday night at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Black Stars secured a nerve-wracking 4-3 win, marking their first consecutive victories since September 2023.

Fresh from a 2-1 comeback win over Mali in their previous 2026 World Cup qualifier, Ghana was determined to deliver another strong performance in front of their home fans.

Jordan Ayew led the charge with an impressive hat-trick, and Fatawu Issahaku also found the back of the net, ensuring the Black Stars clinched the hard-fought win over CAR.

Reflecting on the match, Addo emphasised the positive impact of the rainy conditions on their gameplay.

“I think the rain also helped us to play faster, have control, and play fast balls, so thank God for letting it rain. This was very beneficial to our players,” Addo said.

Addo acknowledged that the team struggled in the first half but improved significantly in the second half to secure the victory.

“Thank you, as always. The support was overwhelming from the start, and despite falling behind in the first half, they pushed us forward to play better. Thank you, Kumasi, for always supporting us,” Addo added.

With this victory, Ghana now lead Group I and will look to continue their strong form in their next World Cup qualifier against Chad, scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in March 2025.
