Heart of Lions staged a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2 with Medeama SC in their rescheduled Matchday 15 Ghana Premier League (GPL) clash at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.

The fixture, initially postponed due to Medeama’s CAF Champions League commitments, saw the Mauves take a seemingly commanding lead through goals from Osah Bernardinho Tetteh (34th minute) and a Ruben Hennessy own goal (72nd minute).

However, Heart of Lions refused to surrender. Ebenezer Abban converted a penalty in the 80th minute, rekindling hope for the home side. Then, in a dramatic denouement, Ruben Hennessy redeemed himself, scoring a last-gasp equalizer in the 94th minute to snatch a hard-fought point for Heart of Lions.

Despite the spirited fightback, the draw leaves Heart of Lions rooted to the bottom of the table with 15 points after 17 games, marking a disappointing end to their first-half campaign. Medeama, on the other hand, climb to 8th with 25 points, offering a glimmer of hope for their second-half aspirations.

In another rescheduled fixture, Karela United and Dreams FC played out a goalless stalemate at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Similar to Medeama, Dreams’ participation in the CAF Confederation Cup led to the postponement of this Matchday 15 encounter.

The draw leaves Karela in 17th place with 17 points, while Dreams sit in 10th with 22 points. Both teams will be looking to improve their standing in the second half of the season.

The Ghana Premier League is currently on a break due to the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, with the second half of the season set to resume on February 23, 2024. With the battle for relegation and continental positions heating up, the second half promises to be even more thrilling than the first.
