It Was A Miracle To Be Kwesi Appiah’s Assistant – CK Akonnor

Current Black Stars boss, Charles Kwabla Akonnor has commended former coach James Akwasi Appiah following the opportunity handed to him to be the assistant coach for the Black Stars.

Coach CK Akonnor was Appiah’s deputy when Ghana beat South Africa and São Tomé and Príncipe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In episode 2 of the serialized conversation with ghanafa.org, Akonnor said:

“I went to him [before taking up the job] because before he got me to assist him there was a lot of discussion between us. I told him my opinion and what I stand for, he accepted that in good fate and so once he is no more the coach, there was the need to for me to give him that respect,” the former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko gaffer said.

“Because truth be told, he is the one who got me there, nobody did. It’s a miracle for me to be his assistant and within two months and after two matches, I am the head. It can only be a miracle, nobody [else] got me there and so I have to give him that respect and I will continue to give him that respect.”

Akonnor replaced Kwasi Appiah in January following the dissolution of the technical teams of the various national teams by Ghana Football Association.
