Red Star Belgrade has found a way to overcome the restrictions on foreign players in the Serbian Superliga by granting Serbian citizenship to their Ghanaian players Edmund Addo and Osman Bukari. The club, which already exceeds the maximum limit of foreign players allowed, has taken steps to ensure that Addo and Bukari can compete as domestic players in the league.
They have followed a similar process they previously undertook for Gabon midfielder Guelor Kanga. While Addo has been in the process of acquiring Serbian citizenship for a while, Bukari’s application process has recently begun. It is expected that both players will receive Serbian passports shortly. Red Star Belgrade has previously facilitated the acquisition of Serbian passports for other players, including Marko Stamenić, who obtained citizenship through his father’s lineage, and Yegor Prutsev and Gelor Kanga, who already had Serbian passports.
By granting Serbian citizenship to Addo and Bukari, Red Star aims to strengthen their squad with high-quality players while staying within the league’s foreign player restrictions. The club looks forward to the contributions of Addo and Bukari as domestic players in the upcoming season.
