Black Stars Defender Patrick Kpozo Joins Banik Ostrava on Two-Year Deal

Patrick Kpozo

Patrick Kpozo, the talented left-back of the Black Stars, has recently inked a two-year contract with Czech Republic club Banik Ostrava.

Having spent a brief 18-month spell with Moldovan powerhouse Sheriff Tiraspor, where he made a strong impression, Kpozo’s performances earned him a call-up to the national team. Prior to his time in Moldova, he had been with Swedish club Ostersund before joining Sheriff Tiraspor in January 2022.

During his tenure with Sheriff Tiraspor, Kpozo featured in 25 matches across various competitions, playing a crucial role in the team’s triumph as they secured their eighth consecutive league title and secured a spot in the prestigious UEFA Champions League. The club also successfully defended their Moldovan Cup title, completing a domestic double.

In March, Black Stars coach Chris Hughton extended an invitation to Kpozo to represent Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola. However, Kpozo’s debut for the national team came in a recent match against Madagascar, where he received praise for his spirited performance, despite the team failing to secure a victory.

Taking on a challenging task, Kpozo now joins Banik Ostrava with the expectation of bolstering their defense. The club narrowly escaped relegation last season, finishing 12th in the regular season.
