Atletico Madrid eye Memphis Depay as short term replacement for Joao Felix

Atletico Madrid have shown interest in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay after the departure of Joao Felix to Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season.

The 2021 La Liga Santander champions look to make another forward purchase from Barcelona after signing David Villa and Luiz Suarez in recent years.

However, Barcelona forward Memphis Depay looks to gain more playing time as his spell under Xavi this season has not been convincing enough due to injuries influx of wingers in the Barca side thus hindering his progress.

Memphis was Barca’s top scorer in all competitions last season and the Dutch man according to reports is interested in making a move this winter.

Barca look to offload players this winter so as to get players off the wage bill.

According to Sky Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, negotiations for the the deal will take place this week as direct contact has been scheduled to make the first proposal.

Juventus also remain a likely destination for Depay whose contract runs out at the end of the season.
