Fiorentina tracking MLS Golden Boot winner Taty Castellanos

Fiorentina have been described as ‘closely monitoring’ New York City FC striker Taty Castellanos, who is also of serious interest to River Plate in Argentina.

Castellanos finished the 2021 MLS season by winning the golden boot with 19 goals.

Fiorentina are close to selling top goalscorer Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus this month. But while Krzysztof Piatek has already arrived from Hertha Berlin on an initial loan. Basel forward Arthur Cabral also looks set to make the switch to Florence before the transfer deadline.

But Castellanos has also now been linked with a similar move to Stadio Artemi Franchi.

TNT Sports in the player’s native Argentina has reported that Fiorentina is just one of ‘several’ clubs closely following him. A potential tag of $15m (€13.5m) could also price River Plate out of a move, with Fiorentina set to land a huge €75m payday by selling Vlahovic.

Castellanos has played professionally in Chile, Uruguay and the United States so far in his career.

He joined Torque, part of the City Football Group, in Uruguay in 2017. That was followed by a move onto sister club New York City in 2018, initially on loan. Castellanos scored 17 goals across his first two seasons in Major League Soccer, before his breakout season with 19 last year.
