Newcastle agree €40m fee for Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes

Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to undergo a medical ahead of a €40m move to Newcastle, 90min understands.

Guimaraes has been linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 side all month, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus also mentioned as possible destinations.

Newcastle have moved into pole position though, with sources telling 90min that a €40m bid has been accepted by Lyon. Guimaraes is currently on international duty with Brazil but this should not slow the move down.

As reported by David Ornstein, the player will undergo a medical in Ecuador prior to his national side’s away game tomorrow night.

Guimaraes has been in good form for Lyon this season, making 20 Ligue 1 appearances and registering three assists.

Personal terms are yet to be agreed but 90min understands that this should not be an issue. Newcastle are prepared to offer Guimaraes a substantial wage increase with the player set to become Newcastle’s third signing of the window after Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier.
