Former Ghana international Sarfo Gyamfi wants Mas-Ud Didi Dramani to replace Milovan Rajevac as he supports calls for a local coach to lead the Black Stars.
This comes after Ghana failed woefully 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Black Stars finished bottom with a single point in a group consisting of Morocco, Gabon and Comoros. It was the team’s worst-ever Afcon performance and Rajevac’s dismissal is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
The Ghana Football Association will appoint an interim manager for the 2022 World Cup qualifier play-off against Nigeria in March. Reports say it will be a local coach. Ibrahim Tanko, Otto Addo and Didi Dramani are said to be in the running.
But Gymafi, who played for Ghana at the 1992 Afcon in Senegal, prefers Dramani. The former Asante Kotoko gaffer is not attached after ending his spell with Danish side Nordsjaelland where he worked as a transitional coach.
“I prefer Didi Dramani to be the next Black Stars head coach because during his stint with Kotoko he was open to criticism and advice,” he said on Onua TV’s Agoro fie.
Ghana’s squad for the Cameroon tournament had five local-based players, but no player played a single minute. Some didn’t even make the bench for games.
“Black Stars without local-based players, it will be difficult for us to win trophies,” Gyamfi added.
Ghana were hoping to win their first Afcon trophy since 1982 in Cameroon.
