Aston Villa are in talks with Juventus over a potential January move for midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, although 90min understands he is attracting interest from around the Premier League.
The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour since Max Allegri returned to Turin, with the Juve manager favouring Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot in recent weeks.
Bentancur has been in and out of the team throughout the 2021/22 season and, according to Sky Sports, Villa are now keen to capitalise on that and bring the Uruguay international to the Midlands.
Steven Gerrard would like to sign the midfielder as some competition for Douglas Luiz in the heart of Villa’s midfield, but will have to fork out £16m to sign him. Sources have told 90min that Villa could also face competition from other unnamed Premier League clubs.
Juventus are hoping to reshape their midfield this January, with Aaron Ramsey and Arthur Melo both linked with moves away from Turin.
Ramsey has been linked with basically every Premier League club, while Arsenal have made a loan offer to sign Arthur. Although Juventus are open to letting the 25-year-old leave the club, 90min has learned that they are keen to offload him on a longer-term basis and would likely not accept any short-term loan deal.
Arsenal may well have acquiesced to that demand, with the player wanting the move and personal terms agreed – although Juventus are yet to make a final decision and any deal for Bentancur would also have an impact, with the Serie A giants unlikely to let both men leave.
In terms of incomings, 90min has been told that Frenkie de Jong has been offered to Juve. Barcelona’s insistence that any move would need to be permanent – or at the very least an 18-month loan – complicates any move, however.
