Sports Ministry summons GFA to explain Black Stars AFCON exit

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has summoned Ghana Football Association officials to a meeting to explain the Black Stars’ calamitous showing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana succumbed to a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Comoros which sealed a group stage exit for Milovan Rajevac’s men, their first elimination at this stage since 2006.

Ghana left the competition without winning a game for the first time in history.

In the press statement signed by sector Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Sports Ministry expressed disappointment in the team’s performance as they “provided everything needed” to do well.

The statement highlighted that the team were logistically and financially equipped ahead of the competition which included a pre-tournament camp in Doha, Qatar.

Per the release, the leadership of the Ghana Football Association has been called to an “emergency meeting” scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2022, to “urgently discuss and make decisions aimed at salvaging the performance” of the team.
