Former Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku criticised the players after the Phobians’ African campaign ended courtesy of another humiliating defeat.
The Ghanaian champions got battered 4-0 by JS Saoura in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup play-offs tie on Sunday.
Hearts went to Algeria with a two-goal advantage, but an utterly poor performance at the 20 August 1955 Stadium meant that the former African champions lost the tie 4-2 on aggregate.
Hearts’ campaign started in the CAF Champions League which they exited at the play-offs stage because of a 6-1 defeat against Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
It was their first away, meaning they conceded 10 goals in two games.
“Seriously the players were a big disappointment. For them to have let this happen again is a big disgrace,” Mireku said on Happy FM.
“There was no need to even tell them what to do after the WAC defeat in the CAF Champions League.”
Amankwah Mireku added that the players must take the blame and not the coach.
“Why do we have to blame the coach? What has he done? Sometimes the players must improvise but I don’t see the Hearts of Oak players are that intelligent to help the coach.
“Any coach who has players that can’t improvise or think during the course of the game is in trouble.”
Hearts will reportedly arrive in Ghana on Friday
